Front-End Web Developer at BlueConduit

BlueConduit software engineers develop, launch, and maintain innovative software products and data pipelines, involving a variety of data sources and machine learning to predict health hazards in infrastructure. Our founding team members were first to build software that guided the then-largest replacement of lead water pipes in the US (Flint, MI). We’ve expanded that to serve cities throughout North America, on both a for-profit and charitable basis. We are passionate about using data science for social good and improving equity.

BlueConduit is seeking a front-end web developer who will:

  • Build client and public-facing frontend of data-driven applications and open source tools.

  • Use cloud infrastructure to deploy applications (DevOps)

  • Collaborate across functional teams to ensure Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) of internal-, client-, and public-facing products.

  • Engage in design processes to gather stakeholder and user feedback to continuously iterate on commercial products and free tools.

We are a small, remote, and growing team, so this is an excellent opportunity to grow into and shape your role at our company. The role provides opportunities for mentorship and growth and opportunities for stepping into leadership positions, as well.

Necessary qualifications

  • Familiarity with modern web best practices and technologies (Single Page Applications) and Agile product development (e.g., sprints, standups, scrums).

  • Competency with popular JavaScript frameworks such as Node, React, Vue, or Angular.

  • Comfortable leading the development of greenfield frontend applications.

  • Comfortable making application architecture decisions with consideration for immediate product requirements and long term product roadmaps.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the initialization of multiple client web applications.

  • Experience testing user interfaces for functionality, browser compatibility, visual consistency, and integration with APIs.

  • Demonstrated experience developing tools, workflows, and best practices that enable a tight development loop

  • Demonstrated experience with user-centered design principles

About BlueConduit

BlueConduit is a social venture that uses machine learning to support decision making to improve public health. Our predictive models help water utilities inventory and locate their lead service lines in order to accelerate their replacement. The team began guiding Flint’s lead service line replacement program in 2016.  Since then, more than 50 cities use BlueConduit’s machine learning models to locate and inventory lead service lines. BlueConduit has inventoried more than 500,000 service lines across its projects in the United States and Canada. Those service lines provide water to more than 1,000,000 residents. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill includes $15 billion to support the removal of lead pipes. This is an opportunity to be part of a team that is helping communities get the lead out of the ground. BlueConduit is funded in part by charitable organizations including Google.org, The Rockefeller Foundation, and The Kresge Foundati
